MELIKE KARA CATALOG

02.03.0017

Melike Kara creates a space of remembrance for the Rotunda of the SCHIRN with her exhibition, and raises questions of identity, migration, and visibility. Starting from an exploration of her familial roots, she investigates the visual culture of the Kurdish diaspora through her continuously growing archive of photographs from various private sources since 2014. For shallow lakes, Kara combines photographic material, ground sculptures, pavilions, and abstract paintings that incorporate patterns from traditional carpets into a comprehensive spatial work. The publication accompanying the exhibition provides a unique documentation of this site-specific installation and enables an in-depth engagement with Kara's visual forms of expression and her imagery that permeates all elements of the installation.
