MARUŠA SAGADIN CATALOG

02.13.0036

Maruša Sagadin’s artistic practice playfully interweaves topics from the fields of architecture and sculpture as well as questions of language and gender. Born in 1978, she concerns herself in her art with often overlooked architectural elements, power relations, and the traces left by women in public spaces ruled by the hegemonic male design. Thus, her installation LUV BIRDS IN TOTEN WINKELN at the SCHIRN is also based on an extensive investigation of this particular space and its specific conditions. A detailed introduction to her artistic work highlights the influences and core elements in Sagadin’s practice, which combines elements from architecture, sculpture, and painting. Playful and subversive, her pieces reference elements of pop culture, subculture, and the applied arts. Combining gender, language, and sculpture, they undermine existing norms and codes while likewise showing how sculpture can function as a way of rendering things visible.
