Where imagination knows no bounds, Marc Chagall is at work: at first glance, the protagonists of his paintings and drawings seem to exist in a universe all of their own, where lovers float in the air and goats play music on the violin. However, Chagall's art is strongly rooted in the reality of his life. This is especially evident in his works of the 1930s and 1940s, which show the artist's perspective on the crimes of National Socialism in Europe.
